Hotmail emails using Mail, complete Mailbox disappeared 31st Dec/1st Jan

Set up MSN Hotmail account on PC years ago. Now have iPad mini and have been accessing with Outlook under the Mail App. Not ideal, but worked for the past 18 months. Over New Year a complete Mailbox simply disappeared, no trace. Unfortunately, it contained a lot of useful technical info. It was just an archive Mailbox. I would move useful emails into it if I felt they could be useful etc.

Anyone had a similar problem?
