How do I edit a mail template

I want to use the Vacations template in Mail stationery but its too narrow. I know where the templates are but have no idea how to alter what I think is HTML file.

Very risky if you are not familiar with HTML and coding. You will need an HTML editor to make the changes or you can use Terminal App if you are familiar with it. As I already stated, a lot can go wrong if you are unfamiliar with it any of it. A simple way to create email templates is with a program like Mail Designer by equinux. It will allow you to create your own personalized templates to suit you own needs. Have a look at it. They have a Free Trial version.
