Welcome to iMore! What exactly are you trying to accomplish with your son's iPod? If you're merely trying to get into his iCloud account you need to (1) know the answers to his security questions or (2) have access to his backup email address. Hypothetically, you should be able to reset his password with either of those.

It is possible that the original poster had a situation where the kid forgot the passwords for both and the parent didn't write down the iCloud password. I say that because it happened to me with my sons iPod. We plugged it in to iTunes and did a full restore. Started over from scratch. All was good.

That works as long as Find My iPhone isn't activated. Otherwise he will still have to enter his son's Apple ID and password once the restore is finished.
