Where did the names go next to phone numbers?

I used to have names next to phone numbers, now its just phone numbers. There seems to be no connection between phone numbers and names. How do I get this feature back?

I suggest trying a Hard Reset. Hold the home and power buttons down at the same time until the Apple screen appears and release.

Do you have contacts set up. Check your contacts. If they are listed as a contact, the name should show. Your Gmail contacts may need to be toggled on in Settings >Mail, Contacts and Calendar > email account.
