My email notification is not working..if I'm sending it works! What is going on?

My email notification is not working...if I'm sending it works!

It used to be if my iPad were closed and sitting beside me, I knew when I was in receipt of an email, but not any more! I have to constantly open my iPad to see if I've received an email. What is going on?????

Go to Settings - Notifications - Mail, and then make sure the toggle is enabled next to "Allow Notifications". After that, check the notifications settings for your email account(s).

Also make sure the slider for 'Do Not Disturb' on Notification Centre (up the top) is off.
