How do I set a phone to turn pics from portrait to landscape and back?

how do I set phone to turn pics from portrait to landscape and back

Recently a setting was changed that now does not allow me to turn my phone and have the screen change from portrait to landscape and back. i am unable to determine what setting that is.

swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up control center... is the icon in the far right of the top row lit? If it is, tap it to turn off orientation lock.
