My game center nickname has disappeared from my iPod, how can I get it back?

my game centre nickname has disappeared from my ipod

I have two ipods and each game centre has a different nickname but they used the same apple id. Two weeks ago one game centre lost its nickname and replaced it with the other one. I set up a separate apple id for this ipod but I cant get it to accept the original nickname. It keeps telling me the nickname is linked to another apple id. This means I have lost my scores and leaderboard info and friends have gone too. i'm not worried about the nickname but how do i get the original info back.
