Facebook Chat?

So how exactly does Facebook Chat for the iPhone work?
I know you can talk on it back and forth, I am just wondering a few things.
If I am chatting with someone there is an option in the chat window that says, "Profile" if I go to that person's profile does that take me off of chat or make me "away". Similiar question - if I leave the chat window open and my phone goes to sleep am I away? I have always wondered these things.

I think closing the app signs you out. I remember I was chatting with a friend then I went to use Safari, then when my friend came back, she was asking why'd I sign off, when I know I didn't.

Yeah as far as I know you have to go to the chat portion of the app see who is online from there. I've never got notified of a chat message being out of the app sadly wish it was possible.
