So I was reading an article on windows 8 in the verge and in the comments a very heated battle about "walled gardens" (basically is only allowing apps through one App Store). Many people's referenced ios of course. I am still fairly new to the iPhone but have had ios devices before. Android has the ability to add apps outside of a market yet all I noticed from doing that was people could get free apps (I was a developer so I was Not about to do that to fellow dev's, but I did do it to try apps I wanted to buy and if I liked them, I bought them) however I know not many people think the same way. I also find that nothing I ever really needed wasn't in the store and if something wasn't, then I couldn't find it outside the store either. In windows case, I understand frustration but at the same time the average person likes to find things easier, and more importantly, find things that work and aren't virus infested. I am ALL for virus free and stable software. It's one of the reasons I like apple over android. I do like freedom, but not at the expense of stability and the irony to me, is that there are more polished apps on ios than android, INCLUDING apps not in the market. I love not having to search the Internet for apps I want then hope they are ok. The walled garden thing helps us all. Is apple too restrictive? Yes, not because they are strict on interface or coding but content. Apple has turned down apps for being in appropriate, sometimes just from simple things. It's not apples job to do that they just need parental/age verifications. No I would never want my kids to have access to bad content, but there are ways to prevent that. However, other than that, a walled garden isn't a huge big deal. Most physical products go through certification, this is not much different. And considering how rampant viruses are on PC and from what I hear android now? (Pretty sure I got some) it's a safer way for average people to get apps. For those wanting more, users can jailbreak. I think jail dealing is better than allowing everyone to just download apps from anywhere as it means users would need to have some computer knowledge and thus are knowingly putting themselves at risk. On windows, this will help moms and dads and grandparents to download apps they didn't know existed or might have been afraid to get due to viruses or malware.

So thoughts on walled garden? (Sorry for any typos, typed this in landscape on iPhone and you don't get much visibility of what you write!

Many people are worried that apple is not innovating the way it was earlier, but the question is "is it really true?". On this topic , everyone has their own views and no one is wrong, but what I feel I'm writing it here. All these points have been already discussed before by others but the question put forward needs to go back to the basics.

According to me apple is obviously innovating .. There is no reason for it to stop innovating ..

Apple has innovated in the past and is also innovating now. It came out with great upgrades on the existing ones.. And may be planning on new ones.
I would like to start with the iPhone and iOS.
True, the iOS 6 was not up to the mark, even I am not happy with it and no one should be, probably because of the high expectations.. it came out with features which were not very great. It was a start for new features of icloud and Siri and passbook, but over all not a great one.
The iPhone on the other hand is a big step forward. Apple according to me has a very good hardware and design.. With the iPhone 5 it reached many new peaks.. It came out with an amazing 7.6mm phone(few months ago) and even though its not the worlds thinnest smartphone, none of the recent phones have even reached close to it! One of Them is the Galaxy S4 .. 7.9mm still short by .3mm.. Getting that 0.3mm is a tough work. The blackberry Z10 is 0.2mm thinner than the iPhone 4 and 4S. There are other phones that are slim but non of them reached these specs..
Their iSight camera is smaller than all other cameras but still is equal to other 8mp camaras.

If we look carefully iPhone is very good but because of the iOS, it's fumbling ..

When other phone makers release their phones they talk about both hardware and software within an hour or so . But apple has different events exclusive for iOS and iPhone.. It is the only company which stresses so much on each of the points ... Goes in-depth for all .. That's what separates them from others.

Next I want to talk about their Mac. I have never used a Mac properly, just scrolled on it some times, that's why I can't say anything about the Mac OS, but their launch events describe every part of the Mac.. Bringing out a MacBook Pro which is thinner than your finger is very much impressive!! There are very few laptops in the market with that specs. I wouldn't be surprised if they come out with a MacBook Air thinner than their Pro. They have already acheived it .. And apple concentrates on a few products done perfect.. The iMac has an edge which is slimmer than the iPhone 5 or the iPad mini.. Reaching those slimness means they are innovating properly!

Next I would like to talk about the iPad and mini.
The iPad mini is slimmer than your iPhone. 7.2mm .. Very impressive .. It doesn't have a retina display.. that's the only thing it misses but there are several reasons for that also. few of it are because apple was not sure if it was going to work, so getting a retina display would be very costly , plus it would not be at a low cost which is still a little high.
The iPad is also stunning .. It's still not very slim but the rumers of the iPad 5 being slimmer are obviously true.. If the mini is 7.2 the iPad can atleast be 7.9..

So when we stack all this up we can see that the iOS is the only thing which is not upto the mark which they are trying to improve. I don't know anything about the Mac OS so...

Apple first tried to reach new hieghts with design and now I think it will do the same with software .. So when the old and awesome hardware (which they already have made) combines with the the software .. It will produce an amazing product..
We can't blame their innovation on the points of only their iOS or the very highly criticized maps (which are a blot to their product)...

I know people write these kind of threads alot, but really im kinda torn where im at with my device ecosyestems. I originaly had my Iphone 4 for 2...

I know people write these kind of threads alot, but really im kinda torn where im at with my device ecosyestems. I originaly had my Iphone 4 for 2 years before getting a iphone 5. I didnt have alot of issues with ios during that time, but honestly was feeling kinda bored with iOS, so i sold my iphone 5 on ebay and purchased a nexus 4 phone.

Theres alot about android I like. Google now is cool, I like having first party access to my google music, and I admit having widgets and control over basic settings better than iOS was cool.

But honestly, im not sure if I want to stay with it and not go back to iOS.

See, theres a few things that I miss about my old iphone and iOS.

these things include build quality, app quality, battery life, and honestly, im getting a little tired of micromanaging my phone to make sure im getting optimal battery life. Also, i like having the comfort of my local Apple Store in case I ever have a issue with my phone. With my nexus 4, I have to deal with shipping to google.

Right now I have a ipad mini, and while I wish it had a better screen, I do like it quite a bit. (but even then im kinda thinking wether I might a new nexus 7 or not)

And after watching google IO yesterday, there were quite a few things that excited me. What with improved google now integration, google music expanding, improved maps, and etc.

And honestly, even though google has done great with putting their apps on iOS, I really am unsure how much they can improve them on iOS. Google cant have the same level as integration as they do on android. I dont know how goog google now is on iOS, but its pretty seamless on android, and I dont think theres ever going to be a official google music app on iOS (espeacily if apple does their own music streaming thing soon.)

So really, while I think iOS has the better quality of apps between the two, I just am worried that if I go back to it, im going to get hosed because im pretty tied to google at the moment. if I go back to iphone and I have my ipad mini, I might as well just use Itunes match instead of google music, but google music cloud storage is free, which I like. but there still isnt a truly great third party google music iOS app. (ive tried melodies and gmusic and still had some issues)

So, even though this is technically a iOS site, I would still like to get feedback from you guys on my current situation. I think theres alot of people who might have experience with both OS's that can offer some input.

thanks.

Now, I know a good amount about phones and I don't believe him at all. But I thought I would bring it up here because maybe I'm wrong. Wanted to bring it here and see what you guys thought. Maybe I'll learn something new.

But like I said, I highly doubt it.

Hello everyone,
If you visit CrackBerry you may know me, I am a pretty active poster there and I wanted to collect some data. (The poll will expire in 2 weeks from today 15/05/2013.)
I would like to know if you guys are going to be using BBM now that it is going cross-platform.
I realize this may not be the most accurate place to post this thread, however, I thought that this would be the best place to put it to get results.
Thanks.
