Hi everyone,

I'm a first time poster on iMore, having recently converted from the CB side of things. I've had an iPod touch in the past, but once I got my first iPhone, I've never looked back. And now I have a question. I've searched all over to see if there's an answer but I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to ask or if this is even the right question.

I'm in the process of changing my name and I would like my email address to use my new name. I have Old.Name@gmail.com address that I've used for years and years as my primary email and that is also my Apple ID. When I got my iPhone, I got an Old.Name@icloud.com address. I recently discovered that you can't change your iCloud address; you can add an alias, which is sort of a stop-gap solution.

I figured I'd try New.Name@gmail.com, but alas, it's already taken (I'd like to meet them!). So I went ahead and made New.Name@icloud.com as an alias. Here's what I've discovered:

- My Apple ID is still Old.Name@gmail.com, which I cannot find a way to change. Apple doesn't seem to want to accept an iCloud email as your actual Apple ID.

- I set New.Name@icloud.com as my default email. Emails in the iOS app and the webmail site go and come by default from New.Name@icloud.com.

- My iCloud account webmail site still has Old Name listed as my name, even though my mail, when delivered, shows New Name.

- I am now unreachable via iMessage at old.name@icloud.com, only as old.name@gmail.com, new.name@icloud.com, and my phone number.

I am incredibly confused, as I feel like I made a much bigger mess than what I thought would just be a simple task. I would like to try and get rid of all traces of old.name@icloud.com and use new.name@icloud.com as my Apple ID if possible, without losing any of my purchases or history since I've had the account, which is probably about ten years now. Is there anything I can do to clean up this scenario?

Thanks for your help!

Hey

I am trying to switch away from google products and I need everyone's advice! I won't lie I do like how google drive works in the fact that I can go to any computer and be able to access it and create a document. If I download pages for the ipad will I be able to do something similar on icloud (go to a computer at the library, create a word document, pull up iCloud.com, and drag that file into it, and be able to access it on my ipad later)?

All I really need Is some way or app that I can do something similar to this. Is drop box a good suggestion if that wont work?

i basically want a cloud storage that I can create and access word documents on different computers/iPads!

Thanks!

So I bought a 4s when they came out and arranged for photos to store in the cloud and to a PC. About 8 months ago my girlfriend got an iPhone and claimed the PC as her own (it is hers, after all) for storing photos from her phone. Sadly ( and wrongly) only one iCloud account can be used per PC as far as I know.

I'd always had this notion that my free 5 GB iCloud account stores photos forever and that the photo stream is this 30 day stop in between my iPhone and the cloud. Now I'm under the impression that the stream is the cloud. Is that correct?

If so, then all photos taken on my phone between the time my GF took the PC and 30 days ago are gone if they aren't in my phone. Right?

My iPad is a 64GB. More space than I'll need. Is there a way that the iPad can sort of become my PC for the purpose of storing photos?

Thanks for any help. Really digging the iPad. Is is going to be my PC in every other way that's possible.

When I log into my iCloud account and click on iWork then Pages it just keeps taking me to a page that says "Learn More" and "Get Pages". I already have Pages, grrrrr. I have gone into my System Preferences and checked documents on both devices. What am I missing or is this not even possible?
Very frustrating to say the least and even more so because all the Apple writings just go on and on about how easy and seamless this should be, NOT!

For my iPhone 4S, I'm currently using 1.2GB of my 5GB of storage.

When my iCloud does a backup, is it consuming 1.2GB of data over the Wi-Fi network each time, or does it simply add or subtract the data that it needs to?

I would hate to think that iCloud is using 1.2GB of my net allowance every night when backing up.

Thanks in advance guys'n gals ;)
