Airport Time Capsule - Range?

In terms of range, does the Airport Time Capsule function similarly to the Airport Extreme? Are they basically the same device, with just the addition of the hard drive to the Time Capsule? I have a two story home, about 2000 square feet, and with my current router in far north end of lower level I get little signal traditionally in upstairs room far south end. Looking to replace my Netgear N600 which has worked better for me than most routers but is now very fond of restarting multiple times a day. If anyone wants to throw their two cents in on any other factors I should consider, feel free. This would be my first Apple router. I have two Macs, 2 iPads, 4 iPhones.

In addition to what kch50248 stated, the range, at least in my experience, is pretty good.
