how to get dataroaming?

I am in LA on holidays, and went to the AT&T shop to buy a simcard for my trip
but they tell me, that it is not possible to get 3G data roaming service on my iphone4, they say that Apple has closed for that
can anyone tell med how I get a sim card with data connection while I am here, dont care about the carrier, just need a simcard asap so I wont get ripped totally from my own carrier in Europa
my phone is legal unlocked and jailbroken
