Whay can't my iCloud account replace my Yahoo email address as an Apple ID?

Apple says if I created my Apple ID with an Yahoo email address, I cannot replace that email address with my iCloud account. What is Apple's reasoning that I can't use my iCloud account name as my primary Apple ID? I want to get rid of my Yahoo email account and do not want it used as my Apple ID.

Great question.

I think the same holds true with Gmail. I created my Apple ID with my Gmail account and I think I'm stuck with that from now on. Now I don't know that for sure as I haven't tried to change it (yet). :)

But this is what I did. From my iPhone I went into settings, my name at top, and created an iCloud email address to use in addition to my Gmail address. Now I can use that iCloud account to log into my iTunes, iCloud, and Apple account. While my Gmail address is still there, I'm pretty much using my iCloud address for everything.

Hope this helps some.

To the OP, just create another email address. GMail, etc. Then you can change your Apple ID to that instead of your Yahoo email address.
