Why don't the three typing dots show up when someone is typing anymore?

When someone is texting me my IMessage does not have the three dots in a bubble to show that there typing. I have the iPhone 7 and it used to show me but does not smymore

I just checked and they do for me. I can see them right now, because my husband is responding to a text I sent him. Perhaps you could do a hard restart and then see if it works...

I still see the ellipsis.
Note: It doesn't necessarily mean someone is typing. It just means at least one character was typed into the message bar. If I were to type 1 letter, then leave messages, the other person would see the ellipsis for 60 seconds. Ever notice you see the ellipsis, but no message appears?
