Does Maps stay on and draw down my data limit?

I have limits on my data from phone company. After I have used Maps under my cellular plan, does it continue to run in the background and increase my data usage? If so, is there away to power it off?

On what device. Double click the home button and swipe up on the map app to shut it down.

When you're not using it you can go to settings > Cellular > Toggle maps off. Swiping it out of multitasking will just cause it to use more the next time.

Apps that are cached are in a suspended state, and are not using any resources. Swiping them does not "shut it down".

Not all apps in multitasking are in a suspended state. Maybe most at any given time. But many are working hard in the background.
