Why can I still see my friend on facetime even though she's paused?

Okay, this has happened quite often. Pretty much everytime we facetime. Which is almost everyday. Now whenever I go to go back to the facetime screen from another app I can see her. Now it sounds normal, but the thing is she's paused. I can see her while her phone is paused. I was just wondering if anyone else is having this problem.
