Why did the volume slide on my iPod 3 Touch get stuck on high and is it fixable?

The volume icon started showing in the middle of the screen last night. I just realized that the volume is stuck on high. I tried resetting and restoring but nothing has helped.

Have you tried using Assistive Touch in Accessibility?
