Alert tone for incoming emails is not working unless in emails

When iPad is off don't get alert for incoming emails

Welcome to iMore! Which email service? Gmail, for example, doesn't push. You have to set it to fetch. Go to settings > Mail > accounts> scroll down to "fetch new data"> Tap > scroll down to "Fetch"> choose one. Manually you have to open the mail app. So choose every 15 minutes or whichever you want.

Be sure notifications for mail are set as desired in notifications > Mail >account> set as desired. If you want it on the lock screen, toggle that on.

The iPad has to be on to allow any kind of activity, including alerts.
