how can I transfer contacts from my iphone 6 Plus to my gmail account contacts?

I'm leaving my job and need the contacts from my phone (attached to server and email account at work) to my personal gmail account (email, contacts etc...) . I have an icloud but I'm uncertain if everything is in there and want to see if there is an easier way. Essentially, I want all of my contacts to be on my phone and in my personal Gmail account.

If the toggle next to "Contacts" is enabled in the iCloud settings on your iPhone then your contacts should be synced to iCloud. With that in mind, login to your iCloud account via a computer, select the Contacts option, select Settings and then choose to export vCard or something to that effect. Afterwards, the vCard containing your contacts will be downloaded to your computer. Now login to your Gmail account and go to its settings to import that vCard file.
