My iPhoto pictures in my old snow leppard Mac computer was transferred into Photos in my recently acquired 2013 Mac. However 6,700 pictures in iPhoto turned out to be around 30,000 pictures in the Photos app. They are not in any special order and there are many duplications. Also none of my albums transferred. I found an app on the internet: Photos duplicates cleaner and tried to use it but it didn't work. What can I do?

If you still have the old photo library you can try to turn off iCloud photos on the new Mac and remove ALL the pictures. Then when the new Mac has nothing showing for photos anymore turn on iCloud photo library again. Since the library is blank nothing should be pushed to the cloud.

Once everything is on an sync'd up, import the old photos to the new Mac and let them all sync.
