Did Apple recently run an update that may have deleted old voicemails?

iMore Question

My brother passed away January 2016, and my mom had been saving voicemails he left on her cell phone. They were from 2015, and she just noticed that they are not saved in her cell phone anymore. They were listed in the messages section and she could listen to them a few weeks ago. I checked the deleted messages section within the iphone voicemail part of the iphone, but they are not there either.

Was there an update Apple made recently that would have caused all older voicemails to automatically get deleted? If so, is there anyway to recover them. If not, do you know what could have caused this deletion and how I may be able to find them?

Not that I'm aware of. Having said that, check with the wireless carrier to see if the voicemails are still saved on their servers.

It may be that the voicemails have been deleted automatically by the software if the phone is running short on space which is of no help to your Mum right now but check the space remaining on your phone.

Perhaps they're in an old backup?
