My son needs a wifi router for his new apartment.

With the Apple Airport Extreme evidently going away, what is a good replacement WiFi router? We want one that recieves regular code updates, mesh isn't required.

I would get a netgear and add tp link as repeaters if needed

It depends on what the needs are and the max speed of the wifi from the provider. I myself have Google Fiber and will be purchasing an Asus AC-5300 Tri-Band router when I can. For most internet though an AC-1700 router is sufficient, that's what I have now and it'll handle 500mbps. It's even essentially free if you have T-Mobile, $20 down and you can return and get your $20 back.

Thanks for the input. Want to make sure whatever we select is updated regularly by the manufacturer. Speed of his internet connection will be 100mpbs. 2 bedroom apartment so mesh or repeaters won't be necessary.
