Why wont my Iphone 4s delete photos and how do I delete them.

I need more space so i tried to delete some but it would only mark it as selected not deleted. I did read that pictures would be deletd if i turned off my iCloud photo library but that didn't work. If anyone has a solution i would apreciate it

After initiating the Photos app, and then selecting the pics you want to delete, simply tap on the icon representing a trash can to delete them. After that, go to the "Recently Deleted" folder within the Photos app, tap on "Select"' then tap on "Delete All" to delete them.

Also, if they were synced to the phone using iTunes on a computer, you will need to use iTunes to remove them from the phone.
