Welcome to iMore! If it's an iPad 2 then it may just be that the battery has died. Apple's iPad batteries are designed to retain 80% of their original capacity for 1,000 full charge cycles. After that you're on borrowed time. You may be able to take it to a reputable repair shop to have the battery replaced.
