The screen on my phone had vertical blue lines and now it won't display anything. Can you help me?

I had vertical blue lines appear on screen a few months ago,they get worse when I don't touch screen but when I do they fade then tonight phone went black as if not on

How old is it?
How did this happen?
Has the phone been exposed to any physical damage? Dropped? Sat on? Run over? Excessive heat? Water?
