How do i delete music from my iPod Shuffle

I have a new computer and just installed iTunes, so i don't have music on iTunes yet.
I have a couple of songs on my iPod Shuffle, which i'd like to delete. All the tutorials i found online do not work, mainly because the menus shown in the tutorials aren't there. Is there some way to delete the music?
Also, is there any other program (not made by apple!) i can use to manage the music on my iPod?
And seriously, what the **** is wrong with apple? There would be no such problem with literally any device created by mankind, other than an apple product!
