What happened to the X needed to remove Reading List items?

I have a MacPro w/Retina Display..with OSx Yosemite...was able to use the Reading List sidebar with success, adding to the list and then using the X to remove titles that I no longer wanted. Recently a friend, more tech savvy than I, did some tweaking on my MacPro and the X is gone so I'm no longer able to delete Reading List items. What now?

Just place your cursor over the article you want to remove from reading list, now swipe with two fingers over the trackpad towards the left — now there's your button to remove the article from reading list.
