iPhone 5 stuck on white screen with Apple Logo

I

iMore Question

I was attempting to upload photos to Facebook on iPhone 5, and the phone just went to white screen with apple logo, and has been stuck for 1 day.

The past week it has been locking up randomly and also shutting off/rebooting itself as if out of battery when battery is stating 40% (or similar).

Over the past few days, thinking it was memory (no message came up though), I delete a bunch of photos. But I forgot to delete also from "recently deleted" folder, so may not have done any good.

Am on travel overseas, so aware from my own iTunes. I logged into a computer with iTunes, and it will not "update". Am hoping not to have to restore (i.e. lose all photos, texts, contacts, etc)

What are my available options?

Would letting battery run completely down over a few days work, to then try a reboot?

Thanks!

Letting the battery die may work but you can also try pressing & holding the home & power buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds to see if that will reboot your device.
