I have two reminders in apple. one I usually set two days before and the second on the day of the event, one hour before. now by default the minute I set the second reminder, it takes the settings of the first reminder and the first reminder becomes the second. how do I fix this?

From my experience the first alert is always the one closest to the event time. There's nothing wrong with your alert unless, you haven't been receiving them. If that's the case try rebooting your device or checking your notification settings for your calendar.

Yes, Nikki is correct. It does seem backwards until you see the logic. Look at it this way:
    First alert = main alert
Second alert = back up alert the day before (or whenever).
I set my first alert for 2 hours before an event. My second alert one day before.
