Why iPhone call log changed in different time zone?

I recently travelled to Canada and used my iPhone 6S for whatsapp only. When I returned to Tanzania (which is 8 hours ahead) the times of calls and messages I had made had changed. IE calls I made at 10pm showed as 5am. Is this normal and why does it happen?

I guess it just changes to the local timezone because the time of the call you made is relative to the time you are at now. So you can still say that it was so many hours ago since you made the call instead of having to make difficult calculations.
