Where are my favorites in messenger

Earlier I had favorites and online friends listed on my start page in messenger on my iPhone. Suddenly they are gone and I can't figure out how to get them back. Can anyone here help?

What "messenger" app? Facebook Messenger? iMessage? Whatsapp? Something else?

You may have set it to 30 days to keep messages. Try going to Settings > Messages > Keep messages> set as desired.

Setting to "forever" should bring your friends back.

I'm assuming that the OP means Facebook Messenger which has a list of "Active Now" and "Favorites" that can be hidden by selecting Hide in the menu.
