I'm not a fan of screen protectors on the curved glass but I'm sure there are others here that can steer you in the right direction.

I'd go with a glass protector. The films always scratch and peel up eventually. They are also more difficult to install without bubbles. I find Zagg to be the best plus they offer free replacements. Five Below sells an off-brand for $5 that are pretty good, although the oleophobic coating doesn't last as long as the Zagg.

I like the glass. Tech Armor and Spigen are the two I like. I have a Yootech one one my 7 right now bc it was the one that shipped quickest on amazon and it has been just fine for me as well. I don't love that it doesn't go edge to edge due to the curved glass but I love the feel of the glass over the films.
