my earphone are turning down the volume on my iPhone 5s/and iphone6 when listing to music

all of a sudden my earphones turn down the volume on my 5s and hubby 6 ( we share headphones as i lost mine ) when listening to music.

Any ideas

It may be my issue which was on oversight. When I switched to iOS 10 and then again to the iPhone 7, it moved all my default volumes to the middle. So first I turned my ringer up. Then I opened YouTube and played through speakers and turned volume up, and then plugged in headphones and again turned volume up. It might simply be what I ran into. If you both just upgraded to iOS 10 it reset your default volumes.
