How do I fix, Pokemon Go log in issues...being asked to register again?

Sunday I set up an account for my son and he played Pokemon Go and caught all kinds of creatures the next 3 days. He didn't play the game Wednesday but today he tried to play it asked for his username and password and then when he put them in it told him he had 2 days to register...we already did register with the username and password he put in. What is going on? How do we get back to playing with his account?

Was there an email sent to the one you used for registration? Something to validate/confirm the email? Did you use Google?

I've found it asks every few days with Google.
