Arrow Can't open my I-Phone. It doesn't recognize fingerprint.

It wants a Passcode. But it doesn't give me a proper diagram to do that since my password has an ampersand in it. There is no ampersand in the diagram provided.
What is the difference between a Passcode and Password?

My belief is that one is made by typing with characters and the other is just numerical.

A passcode is password that has NUNBERS. A passCODE right? And a password is a password that contains WORDS ( or even numbers). PassWORD! Get it?!

That is why I never set up a fingerprint thing on my iPads. Afraid that would happen to me.

The passcode/password is set up as a failsafe in case your fingerprint does not get recognized multiple times. It isn't something you should forget. If you set up a fingerprint you should also take note of what you used as a back-up for your passcode/password.
