Why as my samsung s5 turned its self off updated now asking for a passcode

Hi my samsung s5 turned itself off and said it was updating when it's switched back on its asking for a pattern as well as a number code in which I avent set none the last 2 year I av ad my phone but what I do find odd is i am due to upgrade and told o2 i wasnt bothered about doing.
