I got an apple store git card for recycling my old Mac. I got a $40.40 gift card that can't buy me squat in an apple store. Why can't I put it on my iTunes account?

While I understand and sympathize with you in this, Apple doesn't allow it and unfortunately, you can't purchase an iTunes GC with an Apple GC.

Note that Apple Store Gift Cards can be redeemed on the Apple Online Store and at Apple Retail stores only, but not on the iTunes Music Store or the App Store. You must use an iTunes Gift Card to purchase items on the iTunes Music Store or the App Store.
