Why can't I get sound notifications on my iPhone 6 with iOS 9.3.4?

Since updating my iOS I can't seem to get sound notifications when I get new texts. I have rechecked the settings for notifications, sounds, and rebooted - with no luck.

Welcome to iMore! Is this with all contacts and people? Check to make sure volume is turned up in 3 places.
1. Side of phone
2. Pull up Control Center
3. Settings >Sounds
Also check each thread to see if Do Not Disturb is toggled on. Tap "details" in the upper right. Scroll down and toggle Do Not Disturb off.

What about the mute switch?
Did you disable the toggle for Change With Buttons in Settings > Sounds and then pressed the volume up button to the max?

Did you set a ringtone for Text Tone in the same menu in settings?
