Hi! This problem appeared on my iPhone today for the first time ever. So you are not alone! It's the same site, 100% same problem. I googled this problem and found this topic so I needed to register. I hope someone can help us out? I don't think it's a virus because we both have it and it came out of nowhere..

Mine started today aswell, do our phones have something in common by any chance?
I recently downloaded apps from the paid service "builds.io". I recently downloded pokemon GO, but that's pretty much it.

I downloaded Pokemon Go too but I deleted it two days ago or something. I have no new apps.

I found a temporary fix for Iphone:
Go to Settings > General > Restrictions

Pick a passcode of your choice and scroll down to "Websites", here you will have 3 options, choose "Limit adult content" and scroll down to "Never allow" and press "Add new website".
In this bar simply type "http://mega.viral-content.site" and you won't be able to access it anymore. However, this is a TEMPORARY fix since it still opens another window, just keeps you from getting all those spamming ads.

I have the exact same problem, and I'm not sure where it stems from, BUT I (might have) found a solution. I went to settings in my iPhone and under 'safari' I cleared my history and website data, as well as I blocked cookies always (I'll turn cookies back on, I just wanted to make sure). This works for me so far, but do tell if it works for you too!

Actually, I just found out that I might have gotten the problem from the facebook site "TODBY". My phone worked flawlessly, until I pressed one of their links (about some star photographies I think).

I have the same exact problem on my IPhone since yesterday! I uninstalled Chrome but suddenly it occurred also on Safari. So I think is some kind of malware.
I cleared the data history and for the moment I don't see that box anymore. I hope it'll work.

If I had to guess, I would say you perhaps browsed a website that had some malvertising going on.

Malicious actors pose as legit advertisers on popular websites and then start injecting malicious and bad stuff into your browsing experience once they get accepted.

Good writeup about how it works here ^

Try running the Brave Browser. It's specifically designed to block ads, and since it's a new browser they're constantly updating with new options. I've been using it since it was invite only for beta, and thus far I am very impressed with it.

If you use it and it's not blocking something, please please please report it to the developer. They cannot fix it unless you tell them.

Another option is to run ad blocking apps that work with Safari, such as Refine and Blocker+, but imho the Brave browser is the better option.
