Welcome to iMore! Unfortunately Apple Pay requires an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus or newer.

iPhone 5s actually does have a TouchID reader. Regardless, it lacks other internals needed to support Apple Pay.

However, if you pair an Apple Watch with an iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s, then you can use Apple Pay in stores by using the Apple Watch. You still cannot use Apple Pay on the iPhone 5 (or 5s) directly.

Never knew that! Makes sense considering Apple Watch has all of the necessary hardware.
