backed up to icloud, does not appeara

bought new ipad mini 2. backed up to icloud but when i open the icloud disk there is nothing there. at the bottom of the cloud disk it shows, 0 items, 4.83g available. this shows that some data occupies space, but doen not display it. i can make a new folder, open it and delete it, why can't i see my back up files?
