What would make a call from someone go directly to voicemail?

I am unable to call a friend from FL...up until today my calls and texts were fine...and I can call from another phone...and all other calls go through...can you help

The person could have their phone off or in some sort of do not disturb mode, they could be in an area with bad reception, they could have added you to a blocked list...I mean there could be several reasons and no way for us to know exactly.

Some phones (Android in particular) have the ability to set a contact for when they call you it will go directly to voicemail instead of ringing through. Perhaps your friend accidentally set that feature for your number... have them check.
