Not able to play stored CDs on iphone

Previously with my iPhone 4 I had on the computer downloaded CDs and formed playlists onto my I player which I could play on my iPhone. Now changed to iPhone 6plus I am I able to play these tunes even although there is a large storage area on the phone for what must be my tunes. I am synced to computer and phone. Is there some where I need to look for a connection. My music app only wants me to sign up for a free trial before monthly charges kick in. This I am trying to avoid.
