battery not charging

ipad 2 wont take the charge... have not change plugs ect possibly due to update?

Welcome to iMore.If you are on the current IOS 9.2.1, then that won't be the problem. Have you checked to see the lightning port is clean. Possibly try another cable. Try plugging into a wall and try into a computer. If none of that works, then I would make a Genius appointment, take it into Apple to have it looked at.

The battery may simply be worn out. How long did you leave it on the charger? My old iPhone 5 sometimes takes an hour just to start showing on the lock screen.
