? nvalt not working in OSX 10.11.3??

Recently opening nvalt on my mac doesn't recognize most of the plain text files in the folder in DropBox called Notes that is also accessible from Windows and iOS devices.

Does anyone know if this due to something in the OSX 10.11.3

If so I'll just find another app to take its place,

I don't know, and I've never used that app. Have you tried contacting the app's developer?
