How do I create group phone contacts

I want to send texts to a dozen people at once

Go to your message list screen and in the top right in Blue you will see a square with a pen in it. Tap that and then tap the circle with a plus in it and it will bring up your contacts. Choose the one you want and repeat tap the plus till you have all the contacts listed or written in then compose your text and send. Now that field will auto text the group every time you use it

But if you want to create a group in contacts and not messages you need to use a Mac and the contacts app there.

Hopefully iOS will be able to do that in a future release.

You can try a few apps, although it looks like the good ones cost money. There's Text 2 Group and Group Text.
