My iPad2 just shows a white screen when I switch on, Why?

I upgraded to the latest os last week and since then have had problems with my iPad stopping and freezing a fuzzy screen. Today I switched it on and all I have is a white screen, not able to enter password or anything.

Have you tried a soft reset? Hold the home button and power button at the same time for about 10 seconds until you see the apple logo.
