Whatsapp suddenly asks to verify my phone number, when i do that its says it cant connect to whatsap

2 days ago my whatsapp suddenly ask for my phone number, when i type this in i get the message that whatsapp cant connect to the whatsapp service and i have to try again later, but i can still see i get message's, i noly cant get past the number verification screen.
I have a Iphone 3G, i have tried everything like restarting phone, reinstalling whatsapp, etc.

According to the App Store, WhatsApp requires an iPhone running iOS 6 or above. The iPhone 3G cannot run an iOS version higher than 4.2.1.
