My iPhone 5s just started making this static/white noise when the sound is on. When I turn it to silent it goes away. I don't have any apps open and it just started doing this today. My phone isn't even a week old. Please help!

Welcome to iMore! Is it really abnormally loud? I have never heard any noise on my iPhones. But I don't hear well.
1. Try a hard reset.
Hold the top or side power/sleep button and the home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears, then release.
2. If that doesn't work, I would have the Genius Bar look at it at the Apple Store.
