When I swipe to the left of my home screen I can't see the news section or the maps section in my proactive , just a recommendation of apps and contacts , little help on why I cannot see news recommendations?

Go to Settings > General > Spotlight, and toggle News off.

Be sure you have both Siri Suggestions and Spotlight Suggestions toggled on in Settings > Spotlight Search
Mine works fine, and in addition to the above suggestions, I have News and Maps toggled on in Spotlight Search. I also have News toggled on in iCloud.

Yeah I botched my first reply up and just fixed it. It's early️ Toggling it off in Spotlight should remove News.
